Suffolk Birds

Suffolk Birds is the annual bird report for Suffolk, covering records, notes, and papers on all aspects of Suffolk ornithology. The county bird report first appeared within the pages of Suffolk Natural History in 1952 and became a standalone publication in 1979.

Each volume includes a full systematic list of species recorded across the county during the year, alongside articles on notable species and events, ringing reports, and contributions from county recorders. Records are assessed by the Suffolk Ornithological Records Committee (SORC).

Suffolk Birds is received by all SNS members – both SNS-only and joint SNS/Suffolk Bird Group members – as part of their annual membership. Back issues are available through the button below. Issues from the past twelve months are accessible online to SNS members only.

Contributing to Suffolk Birds
We welcome original papers, short notes, photographs, and artwork on all aspects of Suffolk ornithology. Bird records and field descriptions should be submitted through the county recorders; all other material should be original and not previously published or offered to another journal.

Submissions are preferred by email as a Microsoft Word document. Nomenclature and order should follow the current British List published by the British Ornithologists’ Union. Authors of longer papers will receive a PDF proof for checking; any alterations at that stage should be confined to corrections of printer’s errors.

The submission deadline is 1 March each year.

Send submissions and enquiries to suffolkbirds@sns.org.uk.
