Suffolk Natural History
Suffolk Natural History is the annual transactions of the SNS, published each January. It has appeared continuously since the Society’s foundation in 1929, making it one of the longest-running county natural history journals in Britain.
Each volume brings together original research, recorder reports, and short notes covering the full breadth of Suffolk’s wildlife and geology – from detailed species surveys and habitat studies to ecology, palaeontology, and the county’s geological record. Ornithological contributions are normally published in Suffolk Birds. The Society’s AGM minutes and accounts also appear in each volume.
Back issues are available through the button below. Issues from the past twelve months are accessible online to SNS members only.
Contributing to Suffolk Natural History
We invite papers and short notes on any aspect of Suffolk natural history. Submissions should be original work that has not appeared elsewhere in substantially the same form. The submission deadline is 1 October each year.
Contributions are preferred by email in any standard word processor format. If your submission includes complex graphics or unusual characters, please also send a printed copy. Authors of longer papers will receive a PDF proof for checking; PDFs of published papers are made available online one year after publication.
Suitable photographs – preferably taken in Suffolk – are welcome alongside submissions, either as digital files or as prints for scanning. Line drawings should be in black ink with a scale bar where appropriate.
Full instructions for contributors, including reference formatting and illustration requirements, are available on request from the editor.
Send submissions and enquiries to transactions@sns.org.uk.
